My Mickel Story

My Mickel Story

I have recently become a Mickel Therapist having discovered the benefits of Mickel Therapy first hand earlier this year.

I was given a diagnosis of Fibromyalgia in December 2010 having had 3 years of pain, exhaustion, a very wobbly walk, brain fog, upset tummy, headaches, and numerous other symptoms. I had ended up using a walking stick and then crutches and eventually had a wheelchair and a scooter to get around.

Up to this point I had been told that all my symptoms were related to a car accident I had in 2007, which resulted in a whiplash injury to my neck. The neurologist told me that the brain and neck were too complex for him to find out what was causing my problems. I was just going to have to live with them.

In August 2009 I had a very severe bout of vertigo which resulted in my being off work and in bed. During this time I deteriorated to the stage where I could hardly leave the house. I needed help with everyday tasks and was dependent on others, and I hated it. This went on for two years and I had to leave my job in the NHS as I was unable to identify whether I would be well enough on any given day to go to work.

Luckily I came across a small advert for Mickel Therapy. I had tried every other therapy going. These included:

Physiotherapy

Osteopathy

Osteomyology

Acupuncture

Chiropractor

Hypnosis

Medication

Relaxation

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

I felt I was stuck in this rut of being unwell and decided to try Mickel Therapy as one last therapy.

Before my first appointment, I had read the book about Mickel Therapy, written by Dr David Mickel. Unfortunately, I had such brain fog that not a great deal went in. All I knew was that there was something to do with the hypothalamus not working properly.

I met my Mickel Therapist, having walked slowly form the car park on my crutches, and she began to explain what would happen. It didn't make sense that a talking therapy could help all these physical symptoms I had.

I arrived at my third appointment without my crutches. My therapist didn’t even notice! I have never used a crutch or stick since then and that was January 2013. It continued to improve my health and eventually I was back to feeling like the old me. Don't get me workng, it was one of the hardest things I have ever done, but I now have an active, happy, pain free life with no restrictions.

In November 2013 I headed off to Scotland and I am now one of a very few Mickel Therapists in the UK. I now want to get the word out to anyone who has a fatigue condition, be it ME, Fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue or Post-viral Fatigue, that there is a treatment that works. It really can change your life.
